Mahindra has been one of the first manufacturers to launch an EV in India. However, over the years, Mahindra did not keep up with the trend to introduce more cars. However, with the electric vehicle market becoming popular in India, Mahindra is planning to launch a slew of all-new electric vehicles. They even showcased a few of them at the 2020 Auto Expo.
Now the launch timeline of two much-awaited Mahindra electric vehicles have is revealed. Mahindra showcased the eKUV100 and eXUV300 at the 2020 Auto Expo. Now CarWale reports that the manufacturer is planning to launch both these vehicles by 2022.
Mahindra recently revealed that it will now only focus on its core products – the SUV. Mahindra will enter the private electric vehicle segment with these two vehicles. Mahindra also announced that it aims to increase its vehicle portfolio in India. At the moment, the Mahindra e-Verito is the only model that Mahindra offers in the market. That too is sold mostly to the government for official use.
Mahindra eKUV100
Mahindra aims to launch India’s most affordable car with the eKUV100. As per the details shared in 2020, the eKUV will get a range of about 147 km. The car will come with a 15.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. It will power an electric motor capable of generating about 54 Bhp of peak power and 120 Nm of peak torque. The battery can be charged from zero to 80% in just 55 minutes. Mahindra even announced the price of the vehicle at Rs 8.25 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
We are not sure if Mahindra will tweak the specifications when the launch happens in 2022. Mahindra may also update the range of the vehicle among other things. More details are awaited. Other than that, the eKUV100 looks identical to the standard version of the vehicle.
Mahindra eXUV300
Mahindra also showcased the eXUV300 at the 2020 Auto Expo too. However, Mahindra did not reveal anything about the car. Any information including its range, powertrain, battery capacity remains unknown. However, the all-new eXUV300 is likely to become one of the most powerful cars in the segment. It will take on the likes of Tata Nexon EV and the MG ZS EV.
The standard Mahindra XUV300 remains one of the most powerful cars in the segment and is a performance-oriented vehicle. Mahindra is likely to offer a similar high-performance powertrain with the electric version of the vehicle.
Looks-wise, the eXUV300 looks quite interesting. Overall, it looks very similar to the standard version of the XUV300 but gets a few bits of design changes like a different-looking grille and a few other highlights all over.
The Mahindra eXUV300 is likely to be priced at around Rs 14 lakh for the base variant, while the top-end variant will cost more. Mahindra will also launch the all-new XUV700 and the all-new Scorpio in the Indian market in the coming months. The group will primarily focus on SUVs.
