Indian power producer NTPC Ltd (BOM:532555) has issued an expression of interest (EoI) among domestic and global companies to install 1 GWh of battery storage capacity at its power plants.
The grid-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) could be located either at a single or multiple power stations owned by the state-run company in India. The EoI, released this weekend, concerns the design, construction and operation of the storage capacity and also offers a co-investment partnership.
Submissions will be accepted by August 10, with responses to be opened on the next day. A Request for Proposals (RFP) will follow.
The goal of the EoI process is to assess the prospects for commercialisation for such a project, NTPC said.
According to its website, NTPC owns 66.1 GW of installed power generation capacity, the bulk of which comes from coal-fired plants. By 2032, it aims to become a 130-GW power producer with 60 GW of installed capacity from renewable energy sources.
