- In 2020, India has stood 8th in the world for private investments in AI.
- Private-market investment in India’s 361 privately-owned AI companies witnessed a steady growth between 2015 and 2018, after which it nearly tripled in dollar value.
- The percentage jump in India’s estimated investments in 2019 alone was higher than that of any country including the United States and China.
- Over half of all Indian companies applying AI to their products are active in business analytics, medicine, finance, and sales, retail and customer relations, and they attract more than 60% of all equity funding given to Indian AI companies.
- Indian companies were 2nd in AI adoption in 2020, with Asia-Pacific leading the way.
- India has a vibrant technology market and the third-largest startup ecosystem globally which added 1,300 startups in 2019 alone.
- India tops the list in terms of Relative AI skills penetration rate by Gender in 2015-20. Out of the 12 countries that were examined, India, South Korea, Singapore, and Australia are the closest to reaching equity in terms of the AI skills penetration rate of females and males.
- In a recent report published by Stanford University, Artificial Intelligence Index Report 2021, India was ranked 6th in The Global Vibrancy Ranking 2020.
- India holds the 4th position in the top countries for having the highest growth in AI hiring from 2016 to 2020. Despite the pandemic, the AI hiring continued to grow in 2020.
- India’s workforce holds the highest average share of AI skills represented among its top 50 skills than any other country in the world—roughly 2.6 times the global average.
- The total number of bachelor’s graduates in engineering for 2016–17 in India were 894,437 which is roughly seven times the number in United States that total 133,790 for the same time period.
- According to Stanford AI Index 2020, India stands apart for investing in developing multiple bilateral agreements specifically geared towards AI, with the UAE (2018), Germany (2019) and Japan (2020).
- It is estimate that data and AI in healthcare can add USD 25-30 billion to India’s GDP by 2025
- India rank 8th in the world in terms of AI patents filed. Of the Over 5,000 AI patents filed over the past decade in India, 94% were filed in last 5 years.
- India is the fourth largest producer of AI-relevant scholarly papers since 2010. Between 2010 and 2019, a total of 84,384 AI papers with at least one author affiliated with India have been identified.
