At EY GDS, I lead ES Digital Products and Services (DPS) – which focuses on exploring new-age intelligent digital technologies to enable other EY teams to achieve greater efficiency and exceptional user experiences. By leveraging the latest technologies and concepts such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, robotic process automation, intelligent conversational assistants, we meet EY digital technology requirements thus contributing to the EY organization’s larger purpose.
Tell us how your company is contributing to the AI, big data analytics, and robotics industry of the nation.
EY teams explore new and emerging technologies to innovate internally and also passes those learnings and values to their clients so that they can effectively navigate their digital journeys.
The multi-year roadmap to improve services through digitalization aligns with EY key vision of leveraging data and technology – to free up resources, improve decision-making and, ultimately, complement rather than replace people.
The EY organization will continue to push the art of the possible through AI-driven automation to transform the way organizations work to bring more value to their customers. EY teams will also continue to be a steward for safe and ethically sound AI solutions that help deliver on the promise of AI for the good of the planet.
Kindly share your point of view on the current scenario of big data analytics and its future.
This is a big moment for data as a foundation for the success of every business. Over the years, the maturity, accuracy, and adoption of technology have scaled up massively – we are living in a digitally connected world. With so much being ‘online’, from business to entertainment and leisure, there has been an exponential increase in the data available to us. Individuals and enterprises are interacting online to create and manage data every day, through billions of connected devices. The post-pandemic world, especially, has compelled organizations big and small to revisit how they are using technology to navigate their digital journeys. Right now, there is immense potential ahead to improve decision-making responsibly with intelligence – and we are looking forward to the possibilities.
What are the key trends driving the growth in AI and machine learning?
A top trend that is driving the growth of AI and ML is the increasing adoption of ‘Generative AI’. Computing experiences have evolved and how computers learn from data is changing. Unsupervised algorithms and self-generating code are enabling the build of non-discriminatory AI that is self-sustaining and can go on to create or generate new code, images, audio, or text on its own. As codes become more intuitive and automate complex repetitive processes, we save a significant amount of time – time that we can use to focus more on augmenting human intelligence and identifying ways to create long-term and meaningful impact in the world.
Kindly mention some of the major challenges the GDS ES digital products and services team has faced till now.
The biggest challenge is always to sell the art of the possible. At GDS ES DPS, we embrace a “digital enablement” mindset as we explore trends and how they can be applied to better our working world. This enables us to evaluate how we can create ‘total experiences’ by reimagining the value chain of various products and services. We go beyond simply automating manual touchpoints and look at entire processes from both, business and digital lenses. We recognize that business strategy is a key component of digital enablement and transformation. It is imperative that we keep EY goals and objectives at the heart of our solutions, and then explore innovative ways in which technologies can enable us to get there.
How are AI and robotics evolving today in the industry as a whole? What are the most important trends that you see emerging across the globe?
Robotics has evolved from being just transactional to being transformational – it is almost a paradigm shift. Using hyper-automation – that is, by leveraging a host of cognitive technologies (AI, ML, no-code solutions, GUI, RPA etc.) – enterprises and individuals can now quickly transform business processes to be more data-driven, intelligent, and intuitive. Smarter and more versatile AI has enabled us to go beyond RPA and really push the boundaries of what’s possible. We are also seeing the emergence of more citizen developers – individuals with little or no technical skills – who further drive and champion the growth of AI, ML, and emerging technologies. In a world where automation has evolved to automate, the future is full of possibilities.
How are you helping EY teams deliver relevant business outcomes through the adoption of the company’s technology innovations?
With innovation as a key driver, DPS’ objective is to leverage emerging technologies to identify ways to make our internal processes, tools, and platforms intuitive, intelligent, and seamless – so that EY professionals have the time they need to work on the most important activities. As we work to unlock AI opportunities, we are also looking forward to going beyond robotic process automation – to hybrid and intelligent services, the use of cognitive automation, and beyond. Our mission is to create ‘total experiences’ for EY teams – tailor-made solutions that can help transform their digital journeys.
How do you plan to revolutionize the Indian market and what are your plans to tap the market?
EY teams’ goal is to make the complete engineering process – from concept to deployment – leaner and more efficient. We have an in-house Solutions Lab, where a team of EY professionals has hands-on opportunities to explore and experiment with emerging technologies and see how these technologies can be applied in the business context. It’s an exciting space where learning and experimentation never stop. Curiosity and passion drive EY professionals to explore and create, to learn and unlearn – it’s a great place to be. There’s always something new going on that keeps us on our toes!
AI is projected to be the next market. How is AI contributing to the making of your services?
We are always looking at ways we can leverage data and technology to enable and transform our working world. Whether it is lead generation or risk anticipation or anything in between – exploring how we can use AI in the business context – how we can it more real and more applicable to our businesses – is important to us.
Can you throw light on the ‘UiPath Automation Excellence Award’ that you recently won?
