On Saturday, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud emphasised the significance of technology in reducing the information barrier and mentioned the usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to provide translated copies of judgements in all Indian languages.
Under the direction of Chief Justice Chandrachud, the supreme court began broadcasting live hearings of its Constitution bench in September 2022.
CJI Chandrachud was speaking at a meeting of the Maharashtra and Goa Bar Councils.
He emphasised the advantage of live broadcasting and claimed that law professors and students could view and discuss cases as they were being heard in court. When you talk about real-world concerns, he continued, “you see the inequity that permeates our society.”
There is a barrier based on merit. Live broadcasting is a necessary… I do not hold a pessimistic viewpoint. A few people will start acting out, but they’ll be few and far between, the CJI said.
CJI Chandrachud emphasised the significance of technology and stated that his goal with it is to connect with those who lack access rather than widen the access gap.
The objective is to eliminate the access barrier to information through technology because not every lawyer can afford private reporters. The goal is to provide free information to attorneys.
“But again, English etiquette won’t be of much use to rural lawyers. Making knowledge available to everyone is the goal, he continued.
The Chief Justice of India stated that after meeting with an AI (Artificial Intelligence) professor from Madras, “the next step is to distribute translated copies of judgements in all Indian languages.”
CJI Chandrachud highlighted establishing opportunities for junior lawyers and making sure that people from underprivileged populations get the proper opportunity when he spoke to a group that included many young lawyers.
“We don’t need to hide the system’s flaws in its cracks. We must attempt to fix it. The CJI informed young lawyers, “I will wish for you that you fly high and that you realise your aspirations.
