Perhaps artificial intelligence will provide the next big TikTok hit.
Users of the platform can create their own video background tracks with a feature dubbed “AI Song,” which is now undergoing testing.
In videos uploaded to TikTok, users can be seen changing the genres of their AI-generated songs between pop, EDM, and hip-hop and entering prompts to make lyrics.
Based on a revelation seen in one of the films, the new feature—which is not yet generally available—is powered by a huge language model called Bloom.
The outcomes appear to be inconsistent. Users of AI Song have created pop ballads explaining how to produce concrete and EDM raves about editing a TikTok on your iPhone. Many of the songs feature extremely out-of-tune vocals and usually odd lyrics.
Business Insider was informed by a TikTok official that the function is being tested and may have a different name. They also claimed that AI Song mixes music from an existing repertoire with lyrics created by AI.
In the past, TikTok has encountered backlash over songs produced by AI. The AI-generated song “Heart on my sleeve,” which was covered by soundalikes of Drake and the Weeknd, gained popularity last year before being removed from Spotify and YouTube due to copyright violations.
Bad Bunny made fun of a TikTok song that featured an AI rendition of his voice in November, claiming that the listeners “don’t deserve to be my friends” and that they shouldn’t be allowed to attend his performances.
Numerous technology companies are finding it difficult to handle the abundance of content generated by artificial intelligence. Tens of thousands of songs created with Boomy, an AI business, were forced to be removed from Spotify in May.
TikTok has also made an effort to control the dissemination of content created by AI. The Bytedance-owned platform unveiled new guidelines late last year that mandated users tag content created by artificial intelligence.
“We are committed to respecting both the rights of our artist and rightsholder partners and those of our creator users, while protecting their works from abuse on our platforms,” stated a spokeswoman for TikTok.
