On Wednesday, the Punjab Police and IIT-Ropar signed a Memorandum of Understanding to create the first-ever internal AI and machine learning lab.
According to Gaurav Yadav, the director general of police for Punjab, artificial intelligence (AI) can help police discover fraud and illegal activity by spotting patterns and trends in massive amounts of data, and machine learning algorithms can help identify criminal behavior and direct resources accordingly. In the presence of DGP Yadav, Additional DGP, Technical Services, Ram Singh, and Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar Rajeev Ahuja, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Yadav stated that the partnership will not only open doors for a number of technology advancements but will also assist in utilizing state-of-the-art technologies for intelligent decision-making, criminal pattern recognition and analysis, facial recognition, and predictive policing.
