According to media reports, BharatGPT, a sizable consortium supported by Reliance Industries’s Mukesh Ambani, is about to unveil an artificial intelligence (AI) model specifically designed for India. The service deployment for the ChatGPT-style AIR model is slated to begin in March of the following year. BharatGPT, which is made up of RIL and eight esteemed colleges, recently gave a sneak peek of the AI model to an invitation-only crowd.
According to a Hindustan Times report, the AI model, called Hanooman, represents India’s efforts to develop possibly ground-breaking AI technology. The AI model developed by BharatGPT will target four important industries: healthcare, financial services, governance, and education. It will function in eleven regional languages.
A sneak peek of the AI model was shown to an invited audience only at a recent event. The AI model offered an insight into how it works. While a banker conversed with the AI bot in Hindi, a bike mechanic was seen asking a question in Tamil, a regional language of India. Furthermore, the AI model was shown to be assisting a developer while they wrote computer code.
“Hanooman” was created in collaboration with IITs
The AI model is being created collaboratively with universities affiliated with the Indian Institute of Technology, with backing from Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. The study also stated that startups like Sarvam and Krutrim, supported by Vinod Khosla’s fund and Lightspeed Venture Partners, are creating open-source AI models specifically for the Indian market.
“Hanooman” Will Feature Speech-To-Text Functionality
In order to improve usability, Hanooman will give users speech-to-text capabilities. Major telecom provider Reliance Jio also intends to create customized versions for particular uses. Additionally, Reliance is working on Jio Brain, a platform that will use AI throughout its network of about 450 million users nationwide.
Recall that Reliance Jio Infocomm Chairman Akash Ambani discussed the company’s 2014 cooperation with IIT-Bombay at an event last year. He emphasized that the introduction of BharatGPT is consistent with Jio 2.0, the company’s grand objective for building an all-encompassing ecosystem.
