N Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons, stated that AI will allow those with less skill to execute high-level professions, which will lead to the creation of more jobs in India amid ongoing discussions over how AI will affect the job market.
During a panel discussion at the B20 Summit India 2023, Chandrasekaran stated, “Actually in a country like us, it (AI) will create jobs because it will empower people with little skill or no skill, will empower them with information skill so that they can perform a higher level jobs.”
B20, sometimes known as Business 20, is one of the G20 interaction groups. It serves as a forum for discussion among world business leaders.
According to Chandrasekaran, the effects of AI would vary across markets and socioeconomic groups, according to news agency PTI.
“When we discuss a nation like India, we state that hundreds of millions of people need access… A further 250 million to 300 million people are entering the market. The benefits will be felt for a very, very long time because they have access to knowledge, goods, and services in their way. When people begin to consume, the GDP as a whole is multiplied to a new level, and their per capita income increases.
Chandrasekaran also emphasized the significance of developing a suitable infrastructure for AI. According to him, the availability of such infrastructure would determine how well a country might use generative AI.
Earlier, OpenAI founder Sam Altman claimed that artificial intelligence (AI) might partially disrupt the global labor market while on a visit to India. However, he went on to say that new technologies will open up new work opportunities for the labor market.
India is also experiencing an increase in the AI talent pool. According to research by the professional social network LinkedIn, the nation has emerged as one of the top five fastest-growing AI talent centers in the globe.
In a letter to India’s policymakers earlier this year, the co-founder of Zoho pleaded for regulation of AI since it could jeopardize millions of employment. The petition was co-signed by former NITI Aayog vice-chairman Rajiv Kumar and co-founder of the iSPIRIT Foundation Sharad Sharma.
According to a survey, the number of Indians who added AI abilities to their accounts increased 14 times as of June 2023 compared to January 2016 in the country, indicating that Indians appear to have embraced AI enthusiastically. In terms of the fastest-growing AI talent pool, the company ranked fourth in the globe.
Since ChatGPT was introduced, the use of AI in India has increased significantly. Indian businesses have embraced artificial intelligence and have been developing cutting-edge products using OpenAI’s APIs for a variety of markets, including tech, fintech, SaaS, and other industries.
