The co-founder of the app company Blix, Ben Volach, alleges that Apple has disabled the BlueMail email client, which employs a customized GPT-3 language model from OpenAI. “Apple has stopped the update for BlueMail and continues to treat BlueMail unfairly and to discriminate against us. Other GPT-powered applications do not seem to be restricted, according to Volach.
Before rejecting the update last week, Apple reportedly urged Blix to either change the app’s age rating for users older than 17 or incorporate content filtering. According to Blix, several other Apple app store apps with comparable functionality lack age limits.
We desire fairness. “Others should likewise have to be 17 or older if we’re needed to be,” Volach wrote in a tweet. Apple responded to the issue by stating that developers may appeal a denial using the App Review Board procedure.
The tech sector has been interested in OpenAI’s ChatGPT since Microsoft announced a $1 billion investment in it. Google, a division of Alphabet, also unveiled its own AI chatbot, Bard, in February.
The unpredictable nature of early search results and chats has garnered media attention for the emerging field of AI-powered chatbots.
