Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said today at the Deep Tech Summit – Transformation Through Indigenous Innovation, organized by MeitY – NASSCOM Center of Excellence (CoE) – IoT (Internet of Things) and AI (Artificial Intelligence) in Bengaluru, that the recently announced 300-acre Apple-Foxconn plant in Karnataka is expected to catalyze the electronics manufacturing and Deep Tech ecosystem in the state and reflects the progress.
He claimed that opportunities in the digital economy space have rapidly increased under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Government and now include industries like internet consumer tech, artificial intelligence (AI), data plus economy, electronics, space, automobiles, and space. The economy’s marginally digitalized sectors are now moving quickly, each securing its future at the nexus of digitalization and Deep Tech.
The Minister emphasized the government’s efforts in skill development and the Rs 8,000 key budget line item set aside for it. Said, “The necessary skill inputs have been put in place to support the growth of the digital economy. Over the next three years, 18–20 lakh youth in Karnataka alone will be prepared for both blue-collar and high-tech, industry-relevant, and future-ready occupations.”
In that context, Rajeev Chandrasekhar referred to the 300-acre plant that Foxconn, one of Apple’s suppliers, is building just outside Bengaluru. He said that it would expand youth employment possibilities and spur the Deep Tech and electronics manufacturing industries.
The development happened after Foxconn Chairman Young Liu met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of Foxconn’s aspirations to increase its electronics manufacturing capacity in India. Foxconn is a major manufacturer of electronics. After their first meeting in June 2022, they met again.
