In the second week of the ZDNET Innovation Index, generative AI in particular is once again at the top of the list. That shouldn’t come as a surprise to you, and given the current level of attention, investment, and news around AI, it is safe to assume that this trend will continue.
In case you missed the announcement last week, the Innovation Index ranks the most popular technological trends according to a poll conducted by our panel of specialists and journalists. We are particularly interested in the innovations that are most ground-breaking and will shape the course of history. The top 10 trends of the week are selected by ZDNET’s editorial leaders, and our panel then ranks the top four.
The top trends for this week were:
You can now design your own personalized chatbots with Microsoft Copilot.
EnCharge AI’s solution could address the power issue with generative AI.
Now, Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses are able to recognize landmarks.
AWS releases a tool to confirm AI models’ usefulness.
The release of custom chatbots by Microsoft Copilot was unanimously chosen by our jury as the week’s top story. Users of Copilot Pro may now create their own conversational bots using customized instructions. They can decide whether to share or keep them private. Naturally, one of the main issues with all of the generative AI chatbots available today is their excessive energy consumption. With its potential breakthrough, startup EnCharge AI can use in-memory compute (IMC) to execute AI models on lower-powered devices, bringing genAI to edge computing.
This week’s list of non-AI developments included the introduction of a new augmented reality feature for Meta Ray-Ban smartglasses, which allows the glasses to recognize nearby locations using their cameras. Naturally, they employ AI to do so, so perhaps the scenario isn’t entirely devoid of AI.
Finally, based on standards that the AWS team is building, Amazon’s AWS team released a new tool to validate the utility of genAI models and assist businesses in navigating the deluge of new generative AI tools.
