The Digital India Bill, which would replace the 23-year-old Information Technology Act of 2000, is the subject of the first stakeholder consultation meeting, which is being held in Bengaluru by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
The Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, will be in Bengaluru today to meet industry representatives, attorneys, intermediaries, and consumer groups to discuss the principles the proposed law will be founded on and ask their opinions.
“The minister will host a consultation on the soon-to-be-introduced Digital India Bill, a law that is designed to replace the current Information Technology Act and offer a solid foundation for India’s Techade. According to a statement from MeitY, these discussions are a part of the Digital India Dialogues, which aim to create a participative approach to drafting laws and policies.
The proposed Bill would also suggest a regulator for the online world and outline the penalties for breaking the law. According to previous statements made by officials, the Bill will also regulate new fields like blockchain and metaverse.
