Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, co-founders of Instagram, have introduced “Artifact,” a text-based TikTok that will employ machine learning to ascertain users’ preferences.
According to The Verge, Artifact is a customised news feed app whose name combines articles, facts, and artificial intelligence (AI).
The software, which is accessible on both Android and iOS devices, made its waiting list public on Tuesday.
The application opens to a feed of well-liked articles chosen from a vetted selection of publishers, ranging from major news sources to specialised blogs.
Similar to how watching movies on TikTok’s For You page helps the app’s algorithm become more accurate over time, users who tap on articles they find interesting will later see posts and stories that are similar to those they clicked on.
Two more elements that Systrom thinks will serve as the app’s cornerstones are now being tested by beta users of the application.
One of them is a feed that will show posts and comments from persons you’ve chosen to follow.
A direct messaging inbox is the second feature, which enables users to discreetly discuss the content they read with friends.
In a statement, Systrom stated, “What I noticed over the years was that every time we apply machine learning to improve the customer experience, things became pretty fantastic really rapidly.
He also said that Artifact will remove individual posts that spread untruths. The article added that the application’s machine-learning algorithms will mostly be concentrated on measuring how much time users spent reading about different themes.
In 2012, Facebook paid about $1 billion in cash and stock to acquire Instagram, and Systrom and Krieger left the company later that year.
