In his speech at the 69th annual convocation, the director of IIT Kharagpur announced that the university will provide a BTech programme in data science and artificial intelligence to prepare its alumni for careers in the field of artificial intelligence in the next 20 years.
The institute has been providing postgraduate courses in artificial intelligence, according to director V.K. Tewari. They will now provide a BTech curriculum in this cutting-edge field.
In her speech to the graduating class, President Draupadi Murmu, the event’s primary guest, discussed the values of justice and equality.
“We have determined that all incoming students at IIT Kharagpur in 2020 will take at least one course on artificial intelligence. We have an artificial intelligence (AI) center of excellence. The director stated in his speech that “we want to start BTech in artificial intelligence and data science as well, even though we are giving postgraduate specialization in different areas, including AI.”
“I am confident that within the next 20 years, our graduates will be employed in the artificial intelligence field.”
On March 3, 2018, this publication announced that IIT Kharagpur had established an artificial intelligence center of excellence covering research, education, training, incubation, and entrepreneurship.
Industry refers to artificial intelligence as the fourth industrial revolution, following the introduction of steam, electricity, and computers, according to an IIT professor.
Thus, the institute’s decision to start a BTech program in AI has become inevitable. Through the center, the institute has deepened its understanding of artificial intelligence, machine learning, data sciences, and its applications, according to the instructor.
IIT Kharagpur will rank among the top 10 universities in the world by 2030, according to Tewari.
On August 18, 2021, the 71st anniversary of the institute’s founding, he had admitted that certain universities that “are below IIT Kharagpur are also superseding” the nation’s oldest IIT, adding that this “is a cause of concern.”
In her speech, President Draupadi Murmu stated that everyone should have access to technology and that it should be used to advance equality and social justice rather than exacerbate social divides.
“We think it should be legal for everyone to have access to technology. The President stated, “We believe that technology should be used to advance social justice and equality rather than widening societal gaps.
She emphasized that not a single educational establishment in India is ranked in the top 50 worldwide.
“A strong education is more vital than the competition for rankings. However, she added, a high ranking not only draws top talent and students from around the globe, but it also improves the nation’s standing.
She stated that as IIT Kharagpur is the oldest IIT, efforts should be made in that direction.
More than 3,200 students received degrees during the convocation, according to Director Tewari.
