The data and AI startup, Databricks, stated today that it has had over 80% annualized growth for its India business over the last two fiscal years, mostly due to an increase in demand from Indian organizations for data and AI capabilities. In order to meet the increasing demand for the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform and its expanding customer base, the business has announced the introduction and availability of Databricks infrastructure on Google Cloud’s India (Mumbai) region. These expenditures demonstrate Databricks’ continued dedication to India, as does the establishment of its R&D hub in Bangalore last year.
Due to its quick product innovation, Databricks generated over US$1.6 billion in sales globally for the fiscal year that ended on January 31. This is a growth of over 50% year over year. In its most recent fiscal year, Databricks also executed a number of acquisitions, including Rubicon, Okera, Arcion, MosaicML, and Einblick. These acquisitions, along with Databricks’ recently disclosed investment and Mistral AI’s Series A funding, have established the business as the go-to platform for businesses looking to leverage generative AI safely and with their own unique data.
The demand for data and AI solutions has increased over the last two years in India across all industries, including manufacturing, FSI, retail, and digital natives. Anil Bhasin, Vice President and Country Manager for Databricks India, stated, “This incredible momentum not only highlights the enterprise AI boom in India but also reinforces our commitment to empowering local businesses with data and AI capabilities.”
We consider India to be a critical market, and we are happy that so many of its top companies and tech-forward startups have selected Databricks to help them on their data and artificial intelligence journeys. We’re increasing our investments in India to keep up with the demand, as seen by the most recent introduction of Databricks infrastructure on Google Cloud and the growth of our R&D and go-to-market teams in India. With our Data Intelligence Platform, we are excited to assist even more Indian customers in securely utilizing AI using their own data, according to Ed Lenta, SVP and General Manager for Databricks in Asia Pacific and Japan.
Innovative Indian Clients Use the Databricks Platform for Data Intelligence
The Databricks Data Intelligence Platform is being used by data-forward companies like Air India, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd., CommerceIQ, Freshworks, InMobi, Meesho, Myntra, Parle, UPL, and many more to improve decision-making, optimize business operations, and spur innovation through the use of AI and predictive analytics. The Databricks platform, which is based on a lakehouse architecture and is driven by a data intelligence engine that recognizes the distinctiveness of each enterprise’s data, offers an open, uniform foundation for all data and governance.
“We have started our journey toward digital transformation, and by establishing a center of excellence for digital and analytics at UPL, we hope to optimize the use and revenue generation of data within a range of international company operations. Our data and AI strategy is built on the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform, which powers a number of crucial business use cases such as customer 360, demand forecasting, and commercial analytics. Going forward, we are thrilled to collaborate closely with Databricks to co-innovate on numerous AI use cases in order to continuously transform our business “said UPL Group Chief Data & Analytics Officer Vijay Balakrishnan.
In order to better serve our clients in India, we’re thrilled to be at the vanguard of developing fundamental LLMs trained in Indian languages. We have been pre-training and optimizing our core LLM in close collaboration with the Databricks team. Vice President of Krutrim (a division of Ola Group) Ravi Jain stated, “We are confident that Krutrim, our base model, will be able to provide high-quality responses in Indian languages as well as dialects.”
“Myntra, the biggest and most renowned fashion e-commerce site in India, had to deal with the enormous volume of data it was adding on a daily basis—many gigabytes. We moved to the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform to address this, and doing so has greatly increased our capacity to scale data intake and save operating expenses. Furthermore, real-time data processing has been expedited by the Databricks Platform, allowing us to improve our platform’s responsiveness and efficiency. Ajay Sharma, Vice President for Platform Services at Myntra, stated, “By utilizing Databricks, Myntra is further democratizing e-commerce, making fashion accessible to everyone across India and reinforcing our position as the nation’s leading fashion destination.”
