Fisker Inc, led by Henrik Fisker, the renowned designer of models such as the BMW Z8 and the Aston Martin DB9, will first establish a technology centre in Hyderabad, with a staff of over 300 engineers, and then, in partnership with Foxconn, produce the electric ‘global vehicle’ Pear in India within two years. Apart from India, the business, which is a creator of asset-light electric vehicles, has outsourced its manufacture to the Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn.
Ocean, Fisker Inc’s first model SUV, is planned for a global introduction in November and will be imported as a CBU in India. Fisker Inc is in the process of establishing a local organisation, beginning with the tech centre before collaborating with Foxconn to produce the Pear, its second model, domestically.
The Pear, which is set to debut sometime around 2024-25, is Fisker’s global car project. The Pear is expected to have an entry-level pricing of roughly Rs 20 lakh in India.
According to Fisker, the Ocean has already received over 25,000 requests from a variety of markets, including India. Within the next couple of years, he expects the firm to attain a sales volume of 250,000 units.
In 2021, India’s electric vehicle industry grew to over 300,000 units across all segments. The entry of players like Fisker into the Indian EV market could boost the electric segment sales in India even more.
