As part of the Appscale Academy’s Class of 2023, MeitY Startup Hub, an initiative of the IT Ministry, and Google on Tuesday offered training and development support to 100 Indian early- to mid-stage entrepreneurs.
Following a thorough evaluation process that considered their innovative and creative concepts, product quality, product scalability, and talent diversity, the 100 businesses were picked from over 950 applicants.
The cohort, which includes Varanasi, Ernakulam, Surat, Dehradun, Allahabad, and many other cities, is made up of almost 50% residents from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
A woman founder is in charge of about 37% of the cohort.
The ongoing local tech revolution is fueling the country’s economic growth and driving socio-economic transformation on a global scale,” said Akash Tripathi, CEO of MyGov and Joint Secretary of MeitY. “India is the world’s largest startup hub, with small and emerging towns and cities accounting for nearly 50% of recognized startups.”
The cohort includes companies including Enguru, a live learning platform, BabyG, Louie Voice Control, Dhenoo, a knowledge platform for dairy farmers, GeeCom India, a company that offers e-commerce prospects for farmers, and EyeCan (helping the visually-impaired with virtual assistance).
The other startups are ZenOnco Cancer Care (app for cancer patients and carers), ProjectHero (networking platform for construction workers), Kurukshetra (strategy game inspired by Indian mythology), Neend (mindfulness software that helps people sleep better), Glii (queer dating app), and more.
Jeet Vijay, CEO of MeitY Startup Hub, said, “It is amazing to see our local entrepreneurs make a genuine difference with their enterprises. Google did an incredible job of helping the firms in the first cohort, and we look forward to working with them again.
According to Aditya Swami, Director of Play Partnerships at Google Play, they are eager to assist a new cohort of 100 entrepreneurs in growing their app companies.
The chosen startups will undergo training over the course of the six-month program as part of a tailored curriculum created to assist them in developing high-quality apps for a global market. These sessions will cover UX design, business model and monetization strategies, best practices for international expansion, and data safety and security procedures.
