Google today said that it would begin expanding in Japan and India before delivering its generative AI search experience to other nations. In certain regions, Google’s Search Labs will start offering the new AI-powered search tool, also known as SGE (Search Generative Experience), which will include a new feature targeted at making it simpler to access information in its AI-powered overviews.
SGE, which was initially unveiled at this year’s Google I/O Developer Conference in May, adds a conversational mode to Google Search that allows users to ask Google questions about a subject and receive replies in a manner akin to an AI chatbot. With support for videos, photographs, local knowledge, and trip suggestions, along with additional tools to offer summaries, definitions, and more assistance with coding-related concerns, the business recently improved the experience.
To make the most of the new space set aside for the AI chat experience, it also started experimenting with adverts that would be incorporated alongside its AI-generated responses.
SGE is being customized for the additional supported regions as a result of global growth.
Users of generative AI in Japan will be able to interact with it in their language, while in India they will be able to switch between Hindi and English using a language toggle. Additionally, it includes voice input, which is common in India, so users can say their queries rather than type them and then listen to the responses.
Additionally, search advertisements will continue to run in specific ad spots across the page in both nations.
In addition to these launches, SGE is also rolling out a new feature that will make it simpler for users to find and access the websites that support the data provided in the AI’s responses.
Users can now click a new arrow icon next to information in an AI-powered overview to see the appropriate web pages. This enables them to go directly to the knowledge source used by the AI and learn more about the solution to their queries. This is launching in the US initially, and in the weeks that follow, it will reach India and Japan.
The company stated that with the introduction of SGE, it has discovered that younger consumers are more inclined to use the feature. According to Google, people between the ages of 18 and 24 have the greatest satisfaction ratings and like to ask inquiries in a more conversational style.
In addition, Google stated that users preferred the ability to ask follow-up inquiries and that users are increasingly asking lengthier, more conversational questions with complete phrases. Compared to standard Google searches, when users start a query by typing a few terms, this is a distinct experience.
Additionally, it stated that users found the integrated advertising to be helpful, but it made no mention of click-through rates.
On Android, iOS, Chrome on the desktop, and in the Search Labs area of the Google app, you can find SGE.
