With a score of 3.09, India has become the global leader in talent concentration and Artificial Intelligence (AI) skill penetration. As of August 2023, the country had 4.16 lakh AI professionals installed, which puts it in a strong position to satisfy the 6.29 lakh AI professionals that are currently in demand—a number that is predicted to increase to one million by 2026. These revelations were made public in the India Skills Report 2024 by remote proctored exam and consulting company Wheebox.
The research states that compared to the prior year, India’s overall young employability increased to 51.25%. Notably, states with abundant potential, including Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, and Maharashtra, have the highest number of young people who are highly employable. With 76.47% of test takers achieving a score of 60% or higher on the WNET, Haryana leads the field.
In order to travel the transformative journey of tackling difficulties with an emphasis on inclusion, government agencies, businesses, and educational institutions must work together, as stressed by Nirmal Singh, Chief Convenor of the India Skills Report and founder and CEO of Wheebox. Singh cited the development of digital infrastructure and effective youth upskilling programs as instances of such cooperative efforts.
The survey also emphasized the concentration of talent in the 22–25 year age group, with Uttar Pradesh leading at 74.77% and Maharashtra following closely at 71.97%. The total employability rate for this age group in the top 10 cities is 63.58%. These results highlight the demographic and regional variances shaping India’s employability environment.
Sachin Jain, Country Manager of ETS, India, South Asia, spoke about how the technology environment is changing and stressed the importance of AI in learning science. He also underlined the value of analytics, personalization, intuitive interpretations, and actionable insights. Jain underlined that the use and amplification of AI is necessary in order to accomplish these goals. Being the biggest evaluation company in the world, ETS is in a good position to influence this changing environment.
