Infosys chairman Nandan Nilekani said India is on the cusp of major artificial intelligence (AI) innovations, and Indian companies should look to apply AI to areas such as healthcare, education and judicial systems.
Nilekani said a by-product of the UPI transactional system set up by the government is the huge trove of data across systems. Building good AI systems require vast amounts of data. “Both the business side and the government side are well placed to apply AI in a unique way,” said Nilekani, speaking at an event organised by industry body Nasscom.
Asked if AI can help India make another breakthrough application like Aadhaar or UPI, he said that the National Translation Mission to translate Indian languages is a disruption from India in the language category.
