The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is hosting a week-long event called ‘Azadi Ka Digital Mahotsav’ to mark the 75th year of independence and showcase how digital technology has triggered self-reliance in every sphere of life in the country.
The first day of the event on 29th November saw the presence of many dignitaries, including Sh Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology; Debjani Ghosh, President, NASSCOM; Ajay Sawhney, Secretary MeitY; Rajendra Kumar, Additional Secretary, MeitY; and Abhishek Singh, CEO, Digital India.
Sh Chandrasekhar said, “2021 will go down in the history of India as the 75th year of our independence but also the year where India has demonstrated an unrivalled resilience, capability and capacity to take on this once-in-a-lifetime COVID pandemic, take it on over the last 19 months and emerge from it as a stronger, more confident nation.”
He also said that the digital ambitions of the country are increasing very rapidly and that MeitY will be a catalyst and force multiplier to achieve such goals.
Ms Ghosh highlighted the important role that digital technology initiatives such as a Aadhar have played in tracing and reuniting missing children with their families. She further said that it is India that has introduced the world to the concepts of inclusive technology and ‘tech for good’. Even for outlining the national AI strategy, the first design principle for India was ‘AI for All’.
Mr Sawhney proposed a single sign-on for citizens to avail all kinds of virtual services. He also emphasised that the national public digital platforms offered an opportunity for the industry to join with the central and state governments. He appreciated the AI projects of students from government schools that were being done under the Responsible AI for Youth initiative.
The ‘75@75 India’s AI journey’ is a compendium by INDIAai that details 75 use cases of artificial intelligence across India. This booklet was unveiled at the event by Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar and other dignitaries.
