Rajeev Chandrasekhar, minister of state for electronics and information technology, announced the creation of the GAC, which will investigate user complaints about the inadequate grievance redress provided by social media intermediaries. Representatives from firms including Meta, Snap, Google, ShareChat, and others, as well as representatives from the IT ministry and GAC members, attended the event.
The technology platform was developed to handle these user complaints, and it will automatically separate and forward them to one of the three GACs designated by the government. According to sources, the first committee will be run by the Ministry of Home Affairs and focus primarily on complaints of unlawful or criminal activity.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will be in charge of another one that will deal with false or misleading information. The third committee, which will be run by the IT ministry, will focus on copyright issues and any other illegal conduct that isn’t already addressed elsewhere.
