Sarvam AI, an Indian generative AI firm, has announced that it is collaborating with Microsoft to provide its large language model (LLM) for Indic voice on Azure. The partnership demonstrates Microsoft’s dedication to supporting AI-driven innovation and growth in India.
Generative AI models for Indian languages and situations are being developed by Sarvam AI. The business wants to improve the accuracy and economy of generative AI app development and deployment in India.
The initial release of Sarvam AI’s Indic voice LLM, which aims to give LLMs a natural voice-based interface, will be in Hindi. While maintaining support for the use of vernacular languages, Sarvam AI is striving to increase its coverage to additional Indian languages.
“We are very excited to collaborate with Microsoft to make advanced AI technology accessible and impactful for everyone in India,” stated Pratyush Kumar, co-founder of Sarvam AI. This collaboration expands the application of AI across multiple Indian languages and industries, embodying our vision of “Sarvam,” which means “all.”
For generative AI applications in Indian languages, voice is one of the most natural interfaces. It can be used in customer service, education, banking, and healthcare, among other industries. Microsoft is creating the groundwork for more India-focused developers to create voice-based, real-time, generative AI solutions at scale by working to make Sarvam AI’s Indic voice LLM available on Azure.
Additionally, the businesses will work together to support businesses in swiftly and responsibly implementing generative AI. “We see great synergy in combining the deep-tech expertise at Sarvam AI with Microsoft’s leadership in frontier models and the Copilot stack to empower enterprises to be successful in Generative AI,” stated Vivek Raghavan, co-founder of Sarvam AI.
Sarvam AI will swiftly and effectively train, host, and scale its LLMs using Microsoft’s state-of-the-art cloud and AI infrastructure, including Azure OpenAI Service and Azure Machine Learning. Sarvam AI and Microsoft are working together to explore methods for improving the support for Indian languages in Microsoft’s frontier language models for Generative AI and for large-scale implementation of these models.
Puneet Chandok, president of Microsoft India & South Asia, stated, “At Microsoft, we are committed to enabling AI for everyone, empowering India’s transformation into an AI-first nation.” By working together with Sarvam AI, we are promoting a future in which everyone, from any background or language, can take advantage of the potential of voice-driven AI solutions. This goes beyond simply encouraging domestic innovation. By working together, we are making great progress toward empowering India’s citizens, communities, and organizations to do more.
