The Odisha government announced that it will provide 15 per cent subsidy on the purchase of electric vehicles (EVs). The decision has been taken as per the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy 2021.
The subsidy for two-wheelers is 15% of the cost of the vehicle, a maximum amount of Rs 5000, for three-wheelers, that subsidy will be Rs 10,000 and for four-wheelers, it stands at Rs 50, 000.
The subsidy amount will be credited to the bank accounts of beneficiaries by the RTOs where the vehicles are registered. The scheme will be in place till December 31, 2025.
The transport commissioner, with the help of NIC or OCAC, will develop a dedicated portal to monitor information relating to EV sales, crediting of purchase incentives, subsidies on loans for purchase of EV.
Earlier, the Commerce and Transport Department exempted the registration fees and motor vehicle taxes for all categories of electric vehicles on October 29, 2021.
Talking to India Today, MD of Odisha-based EeVe India, Harsh Vardhan Didwania said, “It’s a welcome move by the Odisha government. It will encourage vehicle buyers to opt for e-Vehicles. It’s good for the environment. Not just air pollution, but electric cars and bikes can put a curb on noise pollution as well”.
Meanwhile, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the Union Budget 2022 on Tuesday, announced that the Centre will soon come up with a battery-swapping policy for electric vehicles.
An Electric Vehicle owner will be able to replace a discharged battery with another fully-charged one instead of having to wait to recharge the discharged battery.
