Teams at Apple are apparently looking into the possibility of developing a mobile robot that can accompany people around their homes as they investigate the possibilities of personal robotics. According to a Bloomberg story, the internet giant is also reportedly developing a cutting-edge tabletop home appliance that employs robots to move a display.
Although the initiatives are still in the early phases, Apple’s entry into the robotics industry may allow it to take advantage of advancements in artificial intelligence and increase its presence in consumers’ homes. Within Apple’s AI and machine-learning section as well as hardware engineering division, robots development is being done.
The effort is still considered to be in the early stages of study, and the corporation hasn’t committed to either project as a whole yet. In an ongoing effort to find the “next big thing,” Apple is investigating a number of ideas, such as a revised Vision Pro, touch-screen Macs, AirPods with cameras integrated in, and novel health technologies like a noninvasive blood sugar monitor.
Another area of great interest is artificial intelligence, with Apple researchers looking at using algorithms to guide bots around crowded areas in people’s homes. The corporation is expanding the teams working on the project by hiring for roles connected to robotics.
The story claims that Apple maintains a house-like testing facility in Apple Park, specifically designed to evaluate the company’s smart home devices. According to the story, Apple is also testing a home hub that resembles an iPad in addition to the robot.
