According to a research released on Monday, there were 45,000 job opportunities for artificial intelligence (AI) positions in India last month, with data scientists and machine learning (ML) engineers ranking among the top professions.
According to Teamlease, a human resources firm, “Initiative for Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET) – Forces Shaping Future of Technology” report, a focus on ML applications is creating demand for AI professionals skilled in scripting languages.
Building conventional ML models will be the foremost skill required for a career in AI. According to the report, entry-level AI engineers can anticipate starting salaries between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 14 lakh annually.
The AI revolution is changing the labor market and there is a pressing need for qualified professionals who can design, develop, and implement cutting-edge AI technologies. Fortunately, the Indian government is taking proactive measures to address this challenge by establishing centers of excellence and training initiatives, as well as by entering a bilateral strategic partnership through iCET, according to Sunil Chemmankotil, chief executive officer of TeamLease Digital.
The paper was released following a recent collaboration between iCET and the US and India to examine the development of AI and related employment opportunities. Aiming to advance and broaden strategic technology partnerships between the two nations, iCET promises cooperation in a variety of tech fields, including AI, quantum technologies, advanced wireless, etc.
“Upskilling with AI skills is becoming more and more crucial for professional progress and employability in today’s quickly changing employment environment. Having a basic understanding of AI and its applications can give people a competitive edge in the job market as automation and AI transform industries across the board, according to Siva Prasad Nanduri, chief business officer at TeamLease Digital.
It’s never too late to start upskilling, and spending money on learning AI skills can help people and their careers in the long run, he said.
According to the TeamLease Digital survey, 37 per cent of firms provide employees necessary tools to establish an AI-ready workforce. As many as 30% of organizations stated that AI learning initiatives are essential to revealing their workforces’ hidden talents. Up to 56% of organizations have made efforts to close the talent gap in the AI market.
Up to 55% of workers claimed that AI creates new job opportunities, and 54% agreed that organizations need to implement upskilling and reskilling initiatives to have a workforce that is prepared for the future. More than 40 per cent of employees feel that building in-house capabilities and integrating AI into day-to-day operations enhance AI capabilities.
The paper referenced the Union Budget as evidence of government initiatives to provide young people with AI-related skills training. The establishment of Centers of Excellence for AI is one significant state initiative.
