At the G20 Ministers’ Meeting on the Digital Economy in Bengaluru, the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, spoke. Speaking to the audience, the PM discussed the creation of Bhashini, a platform for AI-powered language translation that will facilitate digital inclusion in all of India’s different languages.
Using the power of artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies, Bhashini, developed by the Indian government, aspires to create a National Public Digital Platform for languages to provide services and goods for citizens.
The approach intends to operate as an orchestrator to put all of the contributions into an open repository by uniting and aligning a vast, diversified network across government, industry, university, research groups, and start-ups.
To give a scalable solution for digitizing Indian languages, Bashini builds a multi-stakeholder ecosystem. Stakeholder contributions will increase the accessibility of multilingual material and make it easier for citizens to use the internet in their native tongue.
To enable contributions from the research initiatives and the ecosystem, it will develop a unifying architecture supported by open data principles and open-source software. This will also encourage the ecosystem to develop a comprehensive strategy for creating a range of solutions. To assist Bhashini in achieving its stated goals, the plan is to build a community of contributors with a common strategy.
The Prime Minister said, “India’s Digital Public Infrastructure offers scalable, secure, and inclusive solutions for global challenges.” The Prime Minister emphasized that India has dozens of languages and hundreds of dialects, highlighting the nation’s enormous variety.
He continued by saying that every religion and countless cultural traditions from around the world are practiced there. India, according to the Prime Minister, “has something for everyone, from ancient traditions to the most cutting-edge technologies.” He stated that because of its diversity, India becomes a great testing ground for new ideas. He emphasized that any country in the world may easily implement a solution that works in India.
