Bharati Airtel and Apollo Hospitals performed the nation’s first colonoscopy experiment using 5G technology and AI on December 22, 2022.
In this trial, Airtel’s 5G technology was utilised to apply AI to identify colon cancer more quickly and precisely. Both processing speed and ultra-low latency are strong points of this technology.
One of the most potential use cases for 5G, according to CEO and Director of Airtel Business Ajay Chitkara, is healthcare. The team is confident that they will present a lot more fresh use cases that will help reshape the industry in the nation.
Currently, colon cancer is found by a manual colonoscopy technique, which demands a lot of care and time from medical professionals for an accurate finding. This procedure is also drawn out and uncomfortable for patients, medical professionals, and nurses.
Even when the doctor repositioned the scope to overlay image processing on the appropriate portion of the colon, the AI-guided colonoscopy exhibited image processing in real-time without any delays. By accurately recording data and minimising mistakes, the AI-assisted colonoscopy polyp detection trials will support physicians in enhancing the standard of patient care and the accuracy of detection rates. It gives doctors an additional set of eyes.
According to the CEO of Airtel, the country’s healthcare industry would change as a result of the country’s ultra-fast, low latency 5G network. Sangita Reddy, joint managing director of Apollo Hospitals Group, claimed that AI had been shown to increase doctors’ accuracy by enhancing their capacity to detect.
