According to officials on Wednesday, India intends to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) in the food processing industry more quickly in order to increase productivity, raise farmer incomes, and lessen its negative environmental effects.
Senior government advisors and bureaucrats emphasized the need for a roadmap to implement artificial intelligence (AI) tools, which are still in their infancy in the nation’s vast food processing industry, at a conference on the use of frontier technologies in the sector hosted by NIFTEM (National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management).
As a sector, we must develop a roadmap. The secretary for MEITY has joined the team. Speaking on the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) secretary, Food Processing Secretary Anita Praveen remarked, “I am sure he is going to be a big support in this endeavour.”
MEITY Secretary S Krishnan made a strong case for the broader use of AI, pointing out that while some work had already been done in the field of agriculture, the food processing industry was still experimenting with these technologies.
Efficient food processing, according to NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chand, is “climate smart,” helping to improve farmer incomes, satisfy customers, and lessen environmental effect in the face of growing climate change issues.
He proposed that a “great service to the nation” would be to use AI to create affordable, portable devices for agricultural produce quality assaying. “Are there any inexpensive tools we might use to evaluate the produce’s quality? We are still more concerned with quantity than quality because assaying machines are not available,” Chand remarked.
The experts stated that as India wants to achieve net zero emissions by 2070, AI techniques could aid in enhancing sector efficiency overall.
