In order to support AI startups in India, Microsoft and the International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Technology (iCreate) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was facilitated by the Ministry of Electronics & IT. This Memorandum of Understanding is consistent with the goals that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi stated at his meeting with Microsoft CEO and Chairman Satya Nadella last year.
During the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Electronics and Information Technology, and Jal Shakti, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, stated that this partnership will support and transform AI startups in smaller towns and villages as well as big cities.
“The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for the partnership between Microsoft and iCreate to launch the IMPEL AI program will catalyze AI startups in India,” the Minister stated during his speech. It advances the goals that Prime Minister Modi ji outlined at his meeting with Microsoft CEO and Chairman Satya Nadella last year. This collaboration is a manifestation of our common goal to create significant partnerships in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, igniting companies in both larger and smaller communities. We think that the best approach to quicken the expansion of our innovation ecosystem is through collaborations. This alliance will not only last but also influence what India and Microsoft hope to do in the future with IndiaAI. The Indian innovation ecosystem has reached a turning point, and since the current growth is only the beginning, there has never been a more exciting moment than this one. Future tech will be shaped by the Next Wave of startups that will emerge from developing technologies like AI, semiconductors, and HPC. The development, fostering, and stimulation of the future of Safe & Trusted AI is a top priority for our nation.
The iMPEL-AI (iCreate-Microsoft programme for Emerging Leaders in Artificial Intelligence) initiative was launched by Microsoft and iCreate in the presence of Minister Chandrasekhar. In order to select the AI Most Valuable Players (MVPs), the initiative will evaluate 1100 AI innovators from throughout India. Priority subjects for the program include healthcare, financial inclusion, sustainability, education, agriculture, and smart cities. In the second phase, the initiative will pick and grow 100 Indian businesses to use Azure OpenAI for development, and the top 25 will get go-to-market assistance from Microsoft’s Global Network to create cutting-edge, competitive solutions on a global scale.
Through Microsoft’s Learning Management System, 11,000 entrepreneurs, startups, and young Indians from all around the nation will have access to AI skill-building possibilities thanks to a partnership between Microsoft and iCreate. After finishing, participants will obtain Microsoft certifications that are recognized throughout the world, which will greatly improve their employability and capacity to advance in their careers.
Microsoft’s Executive Vice President and President of National Transformation Partnerships, Jean-Philippe Courtois, stated that India is in a unique position to take advantage of the remarkable AI opportunity. In order to facilitate this, we must enable the upcoming generation of entrepreneurs to use AI to scale good influence and address challenging issues. We are thrilled to introduce the iMPEL-AI innovation program because it will support the development of a vibrant AI ecosystem in India and provide entrepreneurs and innovators with the tools they need to close the skills gap in the field and open up new opportunities all throughout the nation. Microsoft is committed to accompanying India on its AI transformation path. We are already witnessing amazing benefits from AI innovation in India, from assisting farmers with digital chatbots to creating economic prospects for marginalized groups with translation tools.
Shri Avinash Punekar, CEO of iCreate, spoke at the event and stated, “AI is transforming how we are engaging with products and services globally.” The largest pool of IT talent in the world is in India, and we think that India’s leadership in AI can make it a major player in every industry. Leading the way in innovative programs that spur creativity and realize entrepreneurs’ full potential is iCreate. Our shared goal, realised through our collaboration with Microsoft, is to take use of India’s technological prowess and elevate the country to the forefront of AI advancements worldwide. The iMPEL-AI initiative has been thoughtfully crafted to promote AI innovation and product development by providing Indian entrepreneurs with the necessary technology infrastructure and mentorship to establish internationally successful AI enterprises.
